Thank you for your interest in Sophia Academy!

A Sophia education empowers middle school girls from the city of Providence through a dynamic academic program where learning is challenging, engaging, and fun. Our school introduces girls to educational experiences to expand their worldview; encourage them to be active and informed citizens; and empower them to see the world through a social justice lens.  By utilizing best practices in gender-specific education, we foster academic, moral, cultural, and social growth of our students in a nurturing, respectful environment.

A great Sophia candidate:

  • has a positive attitude

  • demonstrates potential to succeed in an academically challenging environment

  • possesses curiosity and commitment to her studies

  • shows the desire to grow and mature outside the classroom

To be eligible to apply:

The student must live in the city of Providence and her family must meet our income guidelines. Income verification will be completed before a family begins the application process.

Cost of Attendance:

Sophia Academy is a tuition-free private independent school. We are not a charter or public school, so we do not receive taxpayer dollars. Our school is funded by donors, foundations, and corporations who believe in our mission and our students. Families pay a family contribution (activity fee) to help fund the costs of a Sophia education. A sliding scale is used to set each family’s activity fee based on their household income; the average activity fee is $50 per month, or $500 per year.

Applications:

Applications are being accepted for grades 5th through 7th for the 2024-2025 school year. Class sizes are small -- approximately 15 per grade.
