PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophia Academy today announced the election of five new members of the Board. Sophia is an independent middle school (grades 5-8) for girls from low-income families in Providence, Rhode Island. The school offers small classes in a close-knit community that guides each student to reach her full potential. Every Sophia student receives financial aid. One hundred percent of Sophia’s graduates obtain a high school diploma; and, a majority matriculate to higher education.
“These remarkable new Board members come from a wide range of business and community sectors, and all share a passion for Sophia Academy students,” said Alison Eichler, Board Chair. Added Head of School Maura Farrell: “Their talent and support are crucial to our mission of empowering girls from low income families through a middle school education that draws forth the intellect, talent, and community spirit of each student.”
The following people recently joined the Sophia Board:
· Joy E. Fox – Strategic business consultant, senior advisor to former U.S. Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin
· Carisa Johnson – Program Director, Communities for People
· Suzanne Magaziner – International business strategy consultant, retired
· Kerci Marcello Stroud – Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, RISD
· Jacqueline Sweeney – Director of Leadership and Organizational Development, Textron, Inc.
